The best browser idle games in 2026
Updated
An idle game is happiest in a browser tab: open it, set things going, come back later. Every game here runs in a browser with nothing to install, and nearly all of them are free.
We make Marrow March, so it is on this list; it is marked as ours and it comes last. The rest are games we would point a friend to.
Cookie Clicker
Orteil · Browser, Steam · Free in the browser
Where it started, on the web in 2013 and still growing: bake cookies, buy what bakes them for you, and ascend for heavenly chips when you are ready.
Universal Paperclips
Browser, iOS, Android · Free in the browser
Make paperclips. Then make the machines that make paperclips. Then keep going. Short, strange and famous, and you can finish it.
A Dark Room
Doublespeak Games, Amir Rajan · Browser, Steam, iOS · Free in the browser
A minimal text game that begins with lighting a fire in a cold room and grows into something much larger. Best played knowing nothing more.
Kittens Game
Browser, mobile · Free
A slow, deep village builder run by kittens, with resets that carry paragon and karma into the next village.
Antimatter Dimensions
Browser, Steam, mobile · Free
Numbers that grow into layers: Infinity, then Eternity, then Reality, each reset changing the rules rather than just the speed.
Swarm Simulator
Browser · Free
Start with a few larvae and a small pile of meat, and grow a massive swarm of giant bugs.
Progress Knight
Browser · Free
A life as an incremental game: take jobs, learn skills, grow old, and use the amulet to be reborn before your lifespan runs out.
Melvor Idle
Games by Malcs · Browser, Steam
RuneScape's skills distilled into an idle game: train more than twenty of them and conquer Melvor, in the browser or on Steam.
Trimps
Browser · Free
Breed an army of trimps and fight through zone after zone; portalling resets the world for helium that buys permanent perks.
Marrow MarchOur game
Enes (us) · Desktop browser · Free
An incremental tower defense in the browser: place and train an army in front of the last wall, grow an Essence Tree of 100 permanent upgrades every time it falls, and later let Marching Orders send every assault out on its own. Free, with nothing to install.
How we chose
Every game here was live on its own site when we checked on 1 October 2026. We picked for range: the classics everyone starts with, a few short ones you can finish in an evening or a week, and a few deep ones that last for months.
Questions
What is the best idle game to play in a browser?
Cookie Clicker is the classic place to start. Antimatter Dimensions and Kittens Game go much deeper, and Universal Paperclips and A Dark Room are short games people remember for years.
Do browser idle games keep my progress?
Most save in the browser itself, so progress stays on that browser and computer. Clearing the browser's site data can erase it, so many of them let you export a save as text.
