Marrow March enters Early Access

Marrow March is in Early Access. Version 0.5 is the whole loop, from the first night to the end of the fifth age: hold the wall, fall, grow the Essence Tree, and pass into the Ancestral Sky.

Dusk in Age IV: the Bone Levy walks into fire, frost and the whole line.

What is in it

5 ages of 20 assaults, each with its own sky and a lord of the dead at its end. 6 kinds of soldier to place and train, each with two promotions. 13 kinds of the dead. Traps for the field, guns for the wall and engines for the gate. An Essence Tree of100 upgrades that grows every time the wall falls, and an Ancestral Sky of30 stars for the lines that grow it whole. 21 artifacts to find, and seven languages.

The loop is the heart of it. A run ends when the wall falls, and that is not a failure: the fall pays Essence, the tree grows, and the next run begins on the assault that broke you. Grow every step of the tree and its heart opens: your commander rises into the sky, years pass, and an heir takes the wall, born knowing what the line knew.

Five things to look for

Targeting that listens. Every soldier can shoot the dead nearest the wall, the toughest or the closest to it. Pick a kind to hit first whenever one is in reach, and a kind never to waste a shot on. The Garrison sets it for a whole kind of soldier at once.

The Bone Levy. Whole villages, called up a second time. They come in blocks of small skeletons, in ranks and in step, and a Ball Chute rolling down their lane is the best answer to them.

Blocks of the Bone Levy march in step across the field at dawn.

The graves. Some of the dead do not use the road. Graves break open across the field, and the skeletons climb out of them behind your line. A Gravecaller kneels and does the same wherever it stands.

Fire and frost. The Cresset sets whatever it cooks alight. A Frost Mage freezes the small dead solid for half a second and slows them after. The Snare holds the armoured and lets the rest walk.

The road behind the wall. Light the Inner Ward in the Ancestral Sky and a breach no longer ends the run: the fight moves onto the causeway behind the wall, and the gate’s machines hold it.

The horde pours through the broken gate onto the causeway, where soldiers hold the road at night.

What comes next

The rest of the March, Ages VI to X, with their lords. More soldiers and more guns. The curses, back as a harder way to march old ground. Later, an endless mode and offline progress, so the wall holds while you are away. The whole plan is on the Early Access page, and every update will be in thechangelog.

How to play

Early Access runs as a closed test for now. Write to marrowmarch@gmail.com and I will send you the password. Tell me where you stopped and why: that is the most useful thing anyone can give me.
